WEEK 1: GIFS and looped animations

During the first week of work we were tasked to create a small looped GIFs to practice looped animations. I have had some experience with making GIFs before but I still wanted to try and do something new. That's why I tasked myself with creating a looped walking animation.

At first I did some sketches to hash out ideas for the GIF, this helped me grasp the concept of it as well as think what I could produce that would optimise the medium the best. I then created a some concept art of what I wanted the animation end product to look like, which helped both with drawing the finished lines later on in the process as well as colour blocking. Although the picture is more complicated than the final animation I still found it useful to reference. This is usually the case with a majority of the animations I do.

I then created a rough guide of the toad walking so I could draw the animation more accurately later on. Due to my inexperience with walk cycles I wanted to map out the initial movements and it really helped as a guide when I started drawing final lines.

I then started building lines around the base I previously drew and the animation started to take shape. I drew the toad and then put the little witch girl on top because she swayed with the toads movements so it was easier to map out when the toad was fully drawn.

After this I then added colour based off the original art I drew.

Final frame break down.

In conclusion I am happy with the GIF I made, looking back at it some of the movement is a tad stiff so I might have gone back and added some more frames in to make it more fluid especially with the girl on top of the toad. But I think it was a good exercise to help demonstrate and build on my skills.
